FLOOR BY FLOOR: Devlog 2

Morning all! The majority of the previous two weeks were spent on refactoring some old systems, so nothing too exciting there.  Since I'm the only programmer as of now with the end of the semester drawing near, I've been using the small amount of free time I have to chip away at whatever I can.

The art boys have been working steadily and pushing assets though. So by the time the semester ends in mid December, we should be in a pretty good place to hammer out the new features and changes for Alpha 3.

CHARACTER SHOWCASE

Since the game doesn't currently have any cutscenes or much dialogue to speak of, I thought it would be a good idea to showcase a couple characters that'll be in the finished game.

Q: The main character of FLOOR BY FLOOR and the resistance's best asset. She's a confident, hot-blooded woman of action with one mission on her mind: To destroy the AHRS and free humanity from its grasp. Months of intense training has prepared her for this mission, and she won't let anything get in her way.

Professor Clarke: The closest thing Q has to a father, and an ex scientist for the AHRS whose work greatly contributed to bridging the gap between man and machine. Initially, he was proud of his work and felt he was contributing the the advancement and protection of humanity. However, there came a day when the AHRS made a drastic change in it's protocol to prevent what was alleged to be an impending collapse of society. He saw his work begin to be used as a tool of oppression and couldn't stand to watch anymore, so he defected from the AHRS and offered his expertise to the resistance.

AI CHANGES

Improved telegraphing: Based on some feedback we received,  we tried to improve enemy telegraphing by making their targeting laser appear for a while before they fire. We also added a sound que for the moment before the enemy attacks.

MELEE CHANGES

Melee Chips: To expand upon the melee combat and make it more versatile, we decided to add more melee weapons that can be equipped to each weapon. The first melee weapon we've added so far is the Plasma Lance, it has a longer range than the default Plasma Sabre and allows you to charge through enemies.

Knockable Barrels: Explosive barrels can now be freely knocked around with melee strikes. A lot of people had this suggestion, and honestly I have no idea why we didn't think of it to begin with. The change makes barrels a lot easier to use strategically.
