FLOOR BY FLOOR: Devlog 1
Hey everyone, hope you all had a happy Halloween! I'm Finch, lead developer for FLOOR BY FLOOR. I'm going to (try to) write devlog posts every other week to showcase what the team has been working on.
As of now the team is:
Count Grimhart, who creates art assets and handles our graphic design needs
Redgrave, who also creates art assets and did a lot of the UI assets in the game so far
and Myself, who handles the game's code and our other programming needs
Join us on discord if you want to chat or give us feedback directly on what you think so far: https://discord.gg/nZwXEfa
Right now we're busy developing features and making changes for Alpha 3 of the game. If things go well, it should be playable around January.
Thank you to everyone who played Alpha 2 and gave us feedback! I'm glad to hear that a lot of you enjoyed what we have so far.
CHIEF JUSTICE
After the launch of Alpha 2, we felt that the Chief Justice bossfight was a little lackluster and needed a bit more variety. So we made some changes to its behavior to give it less repetitive patterns and made three new behaviors:
Landmines:
Chief Justice will occasionally drop a strip of mines that explode when you get too close.
Missile Launcher: We've placed some missile launchers around the boss arena to control space a bit more interestingly. Might end up adapting these and putting versions of them in regular levels. Time will tell.
Bounce Projectile:
Added some projectiles that bounce off of walls. Hopefully these will help break up the flow of his shooting attacks and make them feel less repetitive.
BALANCE CHANGES
Plasma Surge:
The Plasma Surge overclock chip felt a bit underpowered, so we boosted the damage output to make them feel more impactful.
Shotgun Spread Shot:
The Spread Shot chip on the shotgun ended up being pretty powerful at mid-long range, which we felt basically invalidated the other weapons in a lot of situations. Not only that, but the intention of the Spread Shot was to be a close range attack with high single target damage. The projectiles on the Spread Shot chip now have a shorter lifetime before they disappear.
